4. Cover basic dental, vision, and hearing.
- dental – to improve nutrition and reduce pain
- vision – to reduce falls, improve general safety, and maintain independence
- hearing – to slow down the development of dementia, maintain independence, improve safety, and improve social connections and quality of life.
At present, the insurance industry likes keeping traditional Medicare inadequate, because they use its inadequacy to market their privatized option. If Traditional Medicare included drug and vision and caps on out-of-pocket expenses, as proposed in the current budget reconciliation package, that would reduce the motivation for Medicare beneficiaries to choose MA plans. Let’s urge our MOCs to both improve traditional Medicare and stop the overpayment of MA plans. The insurance lobby will fight us tooth and nail, but we will win.
Changes we are demanding will make immediate improvements in our health care system, reduce the relative attraction of the parasitic Medicare Advantage programs that are getting overpaid for caring for relatively healthier seniors, and bring Medicare closer to what we are advocating for, so people understand the end goal better.
Security Works and other D.C. insiders are working on our behalf, please watch this OPS 3rd Friday (August) session with Alex Lawson and Michael Lighty.
