The national campaign for state-based universal health care (SBUHC) has begun!
As you may be aware, on June 1, Rep. Ro Khanna is reintroducing the State-Based Universal Health Care Act to amend the ACA by creating a waiver to allow states to develop their plans. Multiple states are already passing legislation to ready themselves to transition to a unified financing system pending federal authority. Rep. Khanna’s bill would support these states in their efforts.
Only 12 house members have signed on so far! We need many more co-sponsors. Here’s how to make it happen.
1. Download an editable letter for your Congressperson by clicking HERE.
2. Download your Congress members and their legislative assistants and directors HERE.
3. Call them, write them, thank them, and lobby them according to their status on the bill as indicated in the last three columns of the spreadsheet.
Similar to Canada’s route to national healthcare, through the province of Saskatchewan, we have several states (CA, OR, WA, MN, ME, NY, etc.) positioned to enact and model the single-payer solution for the United States. The critical ERISA and funding waivers, provided by Rep. Khanna’s and Rep. Jayapal’s *State-Based Universal Health Care Act of 2021, are the precise legal and financial booster rockets needed to prevail in 2021 and 2022 — while also aligning politically with the **Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force recommendations and the ***DNC platform language crafted by Rep. Jayapal and accepted by the Biden campaign last summer.
