The commoditization and commercialization of Medicare have been growing like a cancer for 40 years. October 8, 2022, New York Times article documents the high level of fraud that is characteristic of Medicare Advantage (MA) plans. MA companies lobby Congress for much higher reimbursements than they expect to spend on client health care. They “cherry-pick” and “lemon-drop” clients. They up-code diagnoses to maximize profit. They avoid and leave unprofitable demographics and geographic regions.
